Open House at Canyon View Elementary
Today, June 3rd, was open house at Canyon View. Got to see all of the fun things Emily has done in 2nd grade. The compliments from her teacher about what a great writer and an artist she is just made her day as well as mine! She is truly a great writer and an artist. Here are some of the things from the Open House today... enjoy!
There are poems, arts of butterflies, snowglobes, what you are doing this summer poem, powerpoint presentations, etc...
2nd grade has been such a great year. And to have Mrs. Horner as her teacher is a dream come true! She is truly an amazing teacher!!!

Emily Dickinson - Hero Project at Canyon View Elementary
Two weeks ago, the 2nd graders had to select their favorite hero, do a power point, and prepare a 5 minute or less speech in front of the class (and parents). So the big day was today. I have taken some pictures of Emily giving her speech.
Here are some pictures taken this morning from home. Then there are some from her classroom. Now all of the kids had assigned time. Emily's was at 10:25am immediately after recess.
Then there are 2 videos. One is Emily practicing at home before going to school. And the 2nd one is from the classroom. Kind of hard to hear, but still cute to watch.
Like the outfit? David's mom made it for Emily!!! It was such a hit!

Emily's Parent/Teacher Conference and Report Card A+
On Tuesday, March 23rd, I met with Mrs. Horner for Parent/Teacher conference. I love this type of conference because I am curious to see how much Emily is learning and how well she is doing in class. Let's just say that I am super proud of my little girl. With all OUTSTANDING marks on her report card, which is A+ or 4.0, if you would like to call it, we are just proud of Emily!
She's reading and working at above a 3rd grade level. Emily has been on the math wall Hall of Fame from the start of 2nd grade and she's never been off of that Hall of Fame wall! Her writing skills are "impeccable". There was nothing negative and I was just so proud of her.
Most kids are told to sit in the student work area and wait until the parent is done chatting with the teacher; however, Mrs. Horner told Emily to join us in the conference because she wanted to tell her how proud she is of Emily.
Way to go, Emily! And as a reward for her A+ report card, she got to go to Build-A-Bear and get the bunny rabbit that she has wanted!!!

Reading Counts! At Canyon View 325 Point Achievement
I find that Emily's escape is reading and reading and reading. This girl loves to read! And she has her favorite authors! Today in school Emily received a medal for 325 Points to Reading Counts. There is one other student in another class who has more than Emily - Andrew Do. The rest of the kids? Oh they have a long way to catch up! But it's not like a contest to Emily; she just loves to read!
Soon after Emily's art class today, we took her to Elephant Bar where she could redeem her certificate for a free kid's meal. She got that certificate for Math to Achieve! And we got her a Zhu Zhu Pet for her reward today. Yep! She has been asking for a Zhu Zhu Pet for the longest time!!! A new collection is about to start!!!
This is just a picture of the entire Junie B Jones books that Emily has enjoyed reading since 1st grade. She comes to it once in awhile esp for short car rides.
Emily's favorite book these days?
1) Mallory McDonald by Laurie Friedman
2)Abby Hayes Series.
3) How I Survived Middle School books too
4) Lately she is starting on Babysitter Club & Little House on the Prairie
But her all time favorite is Katie Kazoo and Judy Moody!
WE have a library in her playroom!
